Contribute to Building a More Humane, Just, and Sustainable World
SCU is proud to be one of the 132 founding universities from around the world committed to Pope Francis’ 7-Year Journey Towards Integral Ecology through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform -- an initiative to advance integral ecology and sustainability across the university. In collaboration with SCU’s Division of Mission & Ministry, the Center for Sustainability recently released the strategic action plan Sustainable SCU: Leading Through Laudato Si’. This plan highlights the bold goals and strategies that will orient our efforts and collective action towards building a more humane, just, and sustainable world.
Gifts to the three Center for Sustainability funds (Sustainable Food Systems Programs, Climate Action, and Campus Sustainability Change Makers) will accelerate our ability to bridge academics, operations, and student life at SCU. In addition to the long term changes already in progress around the University, the Center for Sustainability continues to engage individual students and classes through our events, fellowships, food systems programs, and Forge Garden. Support our passionate students as they become changemakers in the sustainability movement!
Gifts to the Environmental Justice & the Common Good Initiative pay student research assistants to work with faculty members on collaborative research with community-based organizations and agencies in disadvantaged communities. Help students to apply their research skills directly to community needs for food security, access to safe water, protection from toxic chemicals, and other environmental justice issues around our region and around the world.
The tUrn Climate Crisis Awareness & Action project is an urgent invitation to everyone of all disciplines to confront the climate crisis and improve their capacity to contribute to just solutions. This week-long series of events happens twice a year, in April and October.
