It is a great day to be a Bronco. Santa Clara University has tremendous momentum, especially Bronco Athletics, which is preparing to emerge on the national stage.

A key component of the University’s 2020 Integrated Strategic Plan is to gain more national exposure and visibility, with athletics being a vehicle to achieve that goal.

University President Fr. Michael E. Engh and the Board of Trustees made a bold move when they approved the report from the Presidential Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics, which provides a thorough analysis of the process to achieve success in athletics.

Since my arrival in 2015, Fr. Engh and the Trustees have committed to investing in athletics. They have provided resources in operating budgets, facilities and staff positions. But our mission is far from complete.

Now, my staff and I need to get to work. Our teams have immediate needs. The majority of our 20 varsity programs don’t have the full complement of scholarships, coaches, facilities and funding. In past years, our coaches were expected to raise significant funds to balance their operating budgets. We need to alleviate their fundraising burden, allowing them to focus on recruiting, coaching and winning championships.

To compete at the highest level of NCAA Division I Athletics, your support is more critical than ever. There are a number of donation opportunities to enhance the student-athlete experience. These choices include the Athletics Excellence Fund, each head coaches discretionary fund, and the Bronco Bench Foundation.

Now is the time to invest in our future. We have great potential and need the resources to give us a chance to return to prominence in all of our programs. Join us as we Stampede Together.

Go Broncos!

Renee Baumgartner, Ph.D.
