Office of Accessible Education

Accessible is our Middle Name, Literally.

Welcome to the Office of Accessible Education!

The Office of Accessible Education has been designated by Santa Clara University to ensure disabled students have equitable access to all academic and university programs. We strive to support students with disabilities so they can participate fully in campus life, its programs, and activities. In an effort to build a more inclusive campus community, we provide academic accommodations and support services, such as testing, in-class, housing, and dining accommodations, as well as disability-related educational programming.

The Office of Accessible Education is undertaking the mission of the Inclusive Excellence Division in shifting the narrative towards the holistic support of all students on campus. We recognize that disability is an integral aspect of a student’s identity that needs to be acknowledged, embraced, and supported. Moving beyond compliance to create a transformational experience for disabled students is a driving factor of how our office envisions bringing disability identity and culture to the forefront within SCU’s community.

We have three major priorities:

  • Executive Functioning/Academic coach
  • The development and implementation of Disability Culture
  • A sensory space

For the academic coach we want to hire a full time executive functioning coach that supports the transition of neurodivergent students into the rigorous atmosphere of collegiate education.

For the implementation of Disability Culture, we hope to create a physical space to foster education, acceptance, and inclusion of disability culture on campus. This will allow for disabled students, faculty, and staff to benefit from having a dedicated safe space to grow in community as well as a programmatic element that will drive the growth of the broader SCU’s understanding and awareness around disability culture.

For the creation of a sensory space, we want to provide a dedicated space for students on the autism spectrum as well as students with a variety of other sensory-oriented disability profiles to use for management of those needs in a private and comfortable manner.
