Communication Department

Help us grow our Professional Engagement Endowment

Every year the Communication Department runs the Hollywood Shadowing Program during Spring Break. This unique event connects approximately 45 students with over 50 alumni working in the film and television industries. Students get to meet alumni working at Disney, Netflix, Hulu, Warner Brothers, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), United Talent Agency (UTA), and on shows and films like Grey's Anatomy, Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Seinfeld. Your donations allow us to offer this experience FREE to all students.

“I went into the Shadow Program unsure if there was a future for me within Entertainment. Once I had met with the Santa Clara alumni that work in the industry, it completely opened my eyes to different career paths one can take within Hollywood. I would recommend the program for anyone remotely interested in film or entertainment!”

- Hannah MacDougall, Class of 2024

“Attending the Shadowing Program was an invaluable experience that helped me focus my broad filmmaking passions on to more specific areas of interest and discern whether it was the right career path for me. I could make strong connections with alumni and ask detailed questions about what it was like working in the industry in LA. The experience helped me gain more confidence in networking and allowed me to ask thoughtful questions to help me in my professional journey post-graduation. It was an experience I will never forget!”

- Ellen Duncan, Class of 2024

“My experience with the Hollywood shadow program granted me the opportunity to converse with a variety of well established professionals ranging from artistic creatives to talent agents on the business end. The shadow program is a necessary opportunity for anyone studying or interested in filmmaking at SCU because it connects students with successful alumni who are willing to share their experiences; furthermore, the program jumpstarts a foundational network that will serve students well as they enter the workforce.”

- Seamus McMahon, Class of 2024
