Environmental Studies and Sciences Department
Environmental Studies and Sciences students are ready to go outside again!

To study the environment, it's essential that our students get out into the natural world for hands-on learning experiences. Covid-19 shut down many of our field trips, lab activities, and research internships. After a year inside, we're rarin' to go again, and your support will help put intensive, real-world learning within the reach of every student.  Thank you!

Hands-on learning is our specialty in ESS. Field trips get our students in touch with the natural world. Internships and research assistantships help them apply their skills to real-world problems. Your support puts intensive, hands-on educational experiences within reach of every student. Thank you!

Virginia Matzek
Associate Professor and Chair of ESS

"The Baja field course brought my studies in the classroom to life...and inspired me to pursue a career in scientific research, Without scholarship funds to pay the course fees, I would not have been able to listen to the exhale of a whale next to my shoreside tent, or study manta rays as they leapt in front of my kayak. I am immensely grateful for the support!"

– Kirsten Dodroe, Class of 2020
