Support the Library on SCU's Day of Giving

The SCU Library is here, opening minds and making missions possible, wherever you are.

This year, the Santa Clara University Library was open in a different way than any of us anticipated. Our staff got books into hands and mailboxes, articles into inboxes, streaming videos into courses, students into safe study spaces, and virtual research consultations into the homes of our students and faculty. We adapted by leaning into the core values of libraries: access to information, education and lifelong learning, intellectual freedom, service, and sustainability, to name a few.

We continue supporting students to open their minds to new knowledge by offering thought-provoking research guides authored by librarians and hosting virtual events to foster candid and caring dialogue on current and historical events through a social justice lens. We provide resources and services to students, faculty, staff, and the public. And, we never charge fines for overdue books!

However, there are many costs associated with sharing our resources and space with the entire community. We provide SCU students, faculty, and staff with immediate access to electronic books, articles, and streaming video available through our database subscriptions. Although this provides worldwide access to quality scholarly information, the cost of these resources climbs 5% each year. The Library is also a vital community-building and study space that will be even more crucial to students as we return everyone to campus. We continue to maintain and update our 163,000 square-foot building to meet changing student academic, social, and technology needs.

Even while we have adapted to this years’ rapidly changing conditions, we are looking toward the future. We have continued with our strategic planning process, which explicitly envisions our commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Now, more than ever, we need your support to continue to provide our indispensable collections and services to the campus community.

Your gift to the Library will support all of these programs and services and help us expand our impact on students’ academic journeys. We can’t thank you enough for making our mission possible!
