In the Political Science Department, we only use gift funds to support opportunities for our students. We have funded a range of activities including student travel to present papers at major national conferences, and summer internships in the government and non-profit sectors.
“With the Political Science Department's contribution to my REAL scholarship, I was able to spend my summer working one on one with immigrants and refugees preparing for naturalization interviews, as well as with a lawyer on family-based immigration cases. I was able to explore the field of immigration from both a non-profit and law firm perspective and learned how much time, research, and empathy this work requires. Not only did this opportunity affirm my desire to pursue a career that amplifies the voices of others but it also made me realize the range of avenues I can take in order to do so. ” - Adele Velastegui ‘22
"With help from the Political Science Department, I will travel to Portland this spring to present my research on the Philippine oil industry at the Western Political Science Association Annual Conference. This experience will be extremely rewarding, allowing me to present my research to my peers, graduate students, and political science faculty, while participating in all conference events and networking opportunities.”
