Bringing Color to SCU through Mexican Folkloric Dance
Ballet Folklórico is a cultural organization dedicated to creating an art-based sanctuary space that both supports Latinx peers and changes their stereotyped narrative on campus. Our goals are to promote cultural awareness to the overall SCU community and make students, staff, and community members of Mexican heritage feel welcome on campus. Off the stage, we work to spread color and culture through one-of-a-kind fundraisers and events.
In order to perform and continue bringing vibrancy, we must honor traditional Cultural attire, which can be expensive. The donations from Day of Giving will allow our organization to continue to create a safe space and to paint the campus with beautiful outfits. Due to our limited funds, we have had to use skirts for the regions of Jalisco and Michoacan, for regions that require the use of other outfits. We want to continue to provide the SCU Campus with beautiful performances and we require the outfits to be able to do this in a culturally appropriate way. We appreciate your help with everything.
"After arriving at SCU, I knew I wanted to continue to dance as a positive outlet and as a way to share my culture with my peers. I have been dancing folklorico for ten years. Baile folklorico is important to me because performing gives me the opportunity to get involved in the Latinx community, make new friends, and educate others on my culture." — Ayana A., ‘26
