WGST Senior Capstone Class (Winter 2023)
Help us support research and internship opportunities for students!
The Santa Clara Women’s and Gender Studies Department is continuing to grow. Currently we have 22 majors and 40 minors. We just hired a new Inclusive Excellence Postdoc in Gender, Race and Social Justice whose work examines the relationship between trans phenomena, racial formations and athletic embodiment. Dr. CJ Jones will be developing new courses for the Department such as Introduction to Transgender Studies and Introduction to Queer and Trans* Sports Studies. This Spring our newest faculty member, Dr. CiAuna Heard is offering an exciting new experiential learning course titled Race, Gender, and Environmental Justice. We are also working to build our internship and experiential learning courses. These experiences are life-changing for students and open doors to professional networks and activist communities. In addition, your donation will help support a student-led capstone project to build a feminist little library called te amo: love letters from our feminist collective. With your valuable support on this Day of Giving we can continue to expand these activities and programs.
Thank you,
Sharmila Lodhia
Chair, Women’s and Gender Studies Department
“The WGST department is an incredibly accepting and intelligent community here at Santa Clara University. I am continuously impressed and inspired by my peers and I have learned so many new concepts and ideas throughout my conversations both inside and outside the classroom. I chose to become a Women and Gender Studies minor because it has always been something I am passionate about but I didn't know how much of a positive impact joining this community would have on my college career.” — Elise Anderson, class of 2023
“It is really exciting to be part of a powerful, tight-knit community that strives to empower women and support those who want to work toward creating a more inclusive and safe environment for everyone to thrive. I have had an amazing experience with the WGST professors and have learned a great deal from them and my peers. After having completed my WGST minor, I feel more equipped to enter the workforce, work with a diverse group of people, and use my knowledge to change the way things are for the better.” — Ashley Orellana, class of 2023
