Our Day of Giving may be over, but please click here to still support SCU.
Public Health Department

Applied, experiential learning opportunities with our local community are at the center of the Department of Public Health's work with students. Faculty and students work closely together beyond the classroom in our Senior Capstone courses, in research labs, and in community settings to address pressing public health issues ranging from Latinx mental health and food insecurity, to developing VR approaches to supporting caregivers of elders with dementia, to the health and well-being of the unhoused and people dealing with substance use, to developing violence prevention policies with Santa Clara County. Our students are passionate, engaged, and building healthy futures for themselves and our communities! Issues of health equity are more visible than ever, and our students are committed to addressing these ongoing challenges.

Public Health students Setareh Harsamizadeh Tehrani and Robert Gamble present at the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Reception and Undergraduate Research & Creative Expression Forum on February 24, 2023. Setareh presented on her work with Abode Services with unhoused communities at encampments in Alameda County and Robert presented on his work around addiction, mental health and homelessness with Recovery Cafe in San Jose.

Whether in the community or the classroom, our students are developing key professional insights and career discernment. This year, we are graduating a larger-than-ever class of Public Health students who will go on to top tier graduate programs, work with community-based organizations, further pre health training, and to become our future Public Health leaders!

With your support, we can continue to support students doing this critical work. Day of Giving is a great chance to support experiential learning opportunities for SCU Public Health students. It is an inspiration to see our students hard at work every day. Thank you for your support!
