Your generous support on this Day of Giving makes many student opportunities possible.
History Department faculty continue to teach students to become informed about their own and other cultures in a global and historical context, conduct independent research, effectively communicate with others (both verbally and in writing), engage in collaborative group projects, and develop broadly reflective and analytical skills – all of which prepare them to be engaged citizens in their communities and in a wide variety of careers.
Gift funds support many student opportunities, including two exciting initiatives we started last year. The first is the Student Summer Research Stipend for rising seniors who will be writing senior history thesis during their final year at SCU. Stipends support preliminary research, including travel to archives and libraries. The second is a new Summer History Internship Program, which coordinates internships with local and regional historical organizations, societies, museums, libraries, and the like, and pays history students to be interns for 8-10 summer weeks. We spent generously to support these new summer research stipends and internships, and we hope you can help us replenish our gift funds.
In addition to these opportunities, donations continue to support the History Club, SCU’s chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society, registration for and travel to history and humanities conferences, the department’s annual student scholarship awards, and the publication of our award-winning undergraduate research journal, Historical Perspectives, which won first place yet again in the 2022 Phi Alpha Theta Gerald D. Nash History Undergraduate Print Journal Competition!
Thank you, again, for your support!
