The Library makes missions possible!
The Santa Clara University Library is open. Our doors are open to the public, to provide expert assistance to users from all walks of life. Our airy, inviting building is open 24 hours for students during finals, so they can master their subjects in secure comfort. We ask students to open their minds to new knowledge, by offering thought-provoking research guides authored by librarians, and hosting events to foster candid and caring dialogue on current events and social justice.
We provide free resources and services to students, faculty, staff, and the public. And we never charge fines for overdue books! Our latest initiative is to connect faculty with Open Educational Resources that they can use in place of traditional textbooks, with the goal of making a Santa Clara education affordable to more students.
However, there are many costs associated with sharing our space and resources with the entire community. It’s expensive to update a 163,000 square-foot building to meet changing student and technology needs. More resources are moving from print to online, which gives us no choice but to subscribe to research databases on an annual basis. The cost of our electronic resources climbs 5% each year, as scholarly publishing companies consolidate and gain more bargaining power over university libraries.
Now, more than ever, we need your support to continue to provide our indispensable collections and services to the campus community. By supporting the SCU Library this Day of Giving, you support the educational journey of all Santa Clara students.
Your gift to the Library will support all of these programs and help us expand our impact on students’ academic journeys. We can’t thank you enough for making our mission possible!
