On April 6th, Go All In for the Center for Social Justice and Public Service!
“The Center for Social Justice and Public Service is at the heart of Santa Clara Law’s Jesuit mission, supporting the social justice work of all of our law school community.” – Evangeline Abriel, Director
The mission of the Center for Social Justice is to raise awareness of social justice needs and to support and celebrate the myriad ways in which our law school community renders service. These include the scholarship of our faculty, the pro bono work of our students, and the Wildman Social Justice Writing award, as well as the Center’s Summer Social Justice Grants and the Spring Break Service Trip.
Through the Summer Social Justice grants, the Law School sends out a small army of social justice warriors each year. They serve the community and under-represented individuals through working at non-profit law offices, foundations, and government agencies. These organizations are not generally able to pay the students, but the Center provides modest stipends to enable the student to pursue their social justice goals.
Each year, a dedicated group of students travel to Arizona, where they assist the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project in its work on behalf of immigrant minors and detainees. We worked with the Florence Project again in the 2022 spring break, albeit virtually.
