"Humanity has always looked to the arts to explain the world."
-W. Kamau Bell, comedian, political satirist, and 2018 Sinatra Artist-in-Residence
The Center for the Arts & Humanities creates robust creative and intellectual programming that brings the campus community together with artists, scholars, and community organizations. Our theme for 2021-22 is Racial and Environmental Justice. In addition to hosting faculty fellows and visiting scholars and artists, we are excited to announce that we have launched a new student fellows program. This inaugural year includes six student fellows who along with four faculty fellows are pursuing projects funded by the CAH, developing collaborative programming based on those projects, and joining each other in community-building.
BD Wong, the multi-award winning actor and activist for Asian-American and LGBQT+ issues, is this year’s Frank Sinatra Chair in the Performing Arts. He has been visiting campus for week-long visits each quarter, including performances, conversations, and class visits. This spring, we are looking forward to bringing him back to campus for his last residency week; as well as continuing to develop collaborative programming with other universities, community partners, and our own CAH faculty and student fellows to host symposia, book launches, readings, exhibits, discussions, blogs, and more.
