This year, LEAD’s ambitious Day of Giving goal is to raise $50,000 to fund one quarter of emergency funds for SCU’s first-generation college students. These funds will help us respond to our students’ needs amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges by helping them pay for rent, food, laptop repairs, textbooks and more.
Since the start of the pandemic, LEAD has distributed over $300,000 in emergency grants and scholarships. This support is complemented by our focus on community building and mental health. We hired a new LEAD staff member with a social work background who is supporting students through mental health and other life issues. In addition, our events have fostered a sense of belonging and offered important resources that support student wellbeing.
These initiatives are part of the LEAD Scholars Program’s comprehensive suite of support that include academic courses, advising, vocational exploration, networking, community outreach, leadership opportunities, and alumni engagement.
Go all in for LEAD to raise $50,000 for our students’ emergency needs!
LEAD Scholars share how LEAD funding has impacted them:
"Being a first-gen student has driven my ambition because I have a higher incentive to meet my goals. LEAD has helped with that in so many ways, by providing funding to help with my living expenses and preparing me for informational interviews and real interviews. Part of my success is because of LEAD, and I will forever be grateful".
