Accessible is our Middle Name, Literally.
Welcome to the Office of Accessible Education!
The Office of Accessible Education (OAE) has been designated by Santa Clara University to ensure disabled students have equitable access to all academic and University programs. In an effort to build a more inclusive campus community, we provide academic accommodations and support services, such as testing, in-class, housing, and dining accommodations, as well as disability-related educational programming.
We recognize that disability is an integral aspect of a student’s identity that needs to be acknowledged, embraced, and supported. Moving beyond compliance to create a transformational experience for disabled students is a driving factor of how our office envisions bringing disability identity and culture to the forefront within SCU’s community.
We have three major priorities:
- Executive Function Coach
- Development and creation of a Disability Cultural Center
- Digital Accessibility Fund
Executive Function Coach - OAE would like to hire another full time executive function coach. With an additional executive function coach, more students can experience the benefits of a personalized partnership to establish SMART goals, create achievable plans, elevate their academic strategies, and scaffold their progress and growth through reflective thinking.
Disability Cultural Center - OAE hopes to create both a physical space and professional position (Director of the Disability Cultural Center) to foster an education, acceptance, and inclusion of disability culture on campus. This will support the SCU community’s growth towards a broader understanding and awareness around disability culture.
Digital Accessibility Fund - OAE wants to provide better digital access to the rapidly changing academic spaces through more assistive technology. However, many assistive technology supports require financial commitments that are often restrictive to students seeking them. Building up OAE’s digital accessibility resources will help SCU level the playing field within the rapidly evolving tech-heavy curriculum and classroom spaces that students navigate.
