We appreciate your support, today, and every day.
Generous donations from alumni and donors continue to enhance the professional development of our students, preparing them for postgraduate success in careers, graduate study, and lives thoughtfully and critically contributing to society. Your support supports sociology students’ foundational skills and training to set them up for success after they graduate!
Our Sociology Department continues to attract exceptional students to our major and celebrate the engaged support of talented alumni. We have 80 majors and minors studying in our department this year, including at least 20 seniors graduating this year!

The Krassowski Award is presented to the senior(s) with the best sociological research paper. This year’s first place Witold Krassowski Award was awarded to Bryce Nishikawa for his paper, “Diversity Requirements: An Analysis of Policy and Interpersonal Interactions at Santa Clara University.” Second place was awarded to Lauren Kelley and Lia Kraaijvanger for their paper, “Jibu Customer Carbon Savings in Rwanda."
The Sociology Alumni Award for Excellence in Community-Based Work recognizes the exceptional contributions made by the recipients through their community service benefiting both the university and the wider community. The prize for community work internal to SCU was awarded to co-winners Kelly Lelapinyokul and Christina Nelson for their extensive service to the Sociology Department and larger SCU community. The prize for community work external to SCU was awarded to Sarahí Espinoza Salamanca for her national award-winning work for undocumented students and educational justice.
The Silicon Valley Sociological Review, the department’s undergraduate research journal, released its 22nd volume last summer. Beyond this, all of our majors explored a variety of fascinating topics in their capstones this year! These are just some of the wonderful things our students are doing because of support from our alumni and donors.
Our sociology club is vibrant and active, meeting often and doing headshots for one another, watching and discussing relevant films, and collaborating with other clubs on campus.

We also thank our many alumni and community members who have mentored our current students and also come back to speak in our Sociology Internship/Public Sociology class. THANK YOU!
All of these amazing accomplishments wouldn't be possible without the support of people like YOU in our community!
Sincerely,
SCU Sociology Department
