Support community-building in the HCI Lab!
Santa Clara University’s Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Lab is a research lab within the School of Engineering that explores how technology can be designed for social impact using human-centered methods. Our projects span a wide range of topics, from investigating bias in generative AI to building data science tools for academic researchers to designing augmented reality that reveal hidden stories.
At the heart of our lab is community. We integrate the Jesuit value of Cura Personalis—care for the whole person—into our research, ensuring that human values guide technological advancements. Our GenAI Bias project, for example, critically examines how AI-generated imagery represents race, gender, and age, proposing ethical alternatives for a more just digital future.
How Your Support Helps
This Day of Giving, your generosity will directly support community-building events for students in the HCI Lab. These include:
- ✅ Regular lab lunches at the Adobe Lodge – casual gatherings where students share ideas and build meaningful connections.
- ✅ Team-building activities like escape rooms, improv workshops, and outdoor retreats – helping foster collaboration and creativity.
- ✅ Alumni and friends engagement – with enough support, we hope to open these events to past lab members and friends, strengthening our network beyond campus.
Our lab brings together students from diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for innovation. Your contribution helps us sustain this collaborative spirit—not just today, but for years to come.
What Our Students Say
“The work we do in the lab allows me to focus on my strengths and passions. It’s a space where we explore emerging technologies for social impact—whether that’s uplifting communities in our area or deepening our understanding of digital interactions.”
— Madison Nguyen, ‘25
